If you’ve been reading this blog for the last couple of years, you know that part of my annual end of year ritual is to receive my word for the year and create my Vision Board around it.

Rather than making New Year’s resolutions, I choose OneWord that I want to embody my year. Well, more accurately, the word chooses me and I am offered the challenge of living into that word for an entire year.

No Word

For the first time since doing this ritual, I came into December without a word for the New Year. I typically get my word by the middle of November; often it has been much earlier than that. I DEFINITELY have it by Thanksgiving.

This year, I had nothing! There were a few words that I thought might be it but none of them felt quite right.

My friends and I had set the date for our annual Vision Board creating party back in October. It never crossed my mind that I wouldn’t have a word. I ALWAYS have a word.

But I went to bed the night before our Vision Board date with no word. I had no idea how my board would turn out or what impact not having a word would have on the process.

It Comes

I started a new journaling practice recently and while journaling the next morning my word presented itself. Just like that, as I was writing, Spirit dropped the word into my heart and I knew it was both right and perfect.

My word for 2018 is POSSIBILITY. It feels so delicious and full of so much promise. I love it and I think I’m going to have fun living into it next year.

A series of events at the beginning of December set in motion some big changes that are coming for me in the New Year. I don’t typically do well with change but this word is already helping to switch my perspective as I think about those changes. I’m excited to see where it takes me.

And here is my Vision Board for 2018

2018 vision board

Every year I think I can’t make a new board that I love more than the current year’s board. And every year when I create the new board I fall in love with it almost immediately.

This year that unfolded slightly differently for me. I love my new board but I didn’t get there right away.

More Firsts

The day we created our boards, my friends finished theirs before I did. That’s not unusual, I’m usually the last to wrap up and since we do it at my house it works out well for me.

But this year, as I laid everything out I didn’t love it. I knew most of what was on there belonged there but something wasn’t right.

I went to bed that night without finishing it, which was another first for me.

The next morning I took a couple of small things off, moved one or two things around and then walked away. Again, without gluing anything to finish the process and still not loving it.

Later, as I was heading out the door for the day, I took one final look at it and heard Spirit whisper to me, “you’re ready to receive this board now.” And in that moment I suddenly loved it. Apparently the something “not quite right” was about me, not my board.

Possibility

As I glued everything down that night, I fell more in love with her. One of my goals for this year is to allow myself to be fully present in my body. I’m in my head a lot and very comfortable with the masculine way of being in the world.

Over the last few months, I’ve been on a journey to embrace my feminine side more, to open and receive more easily and to be in flow. I’m good at hustling but I feel this strong pull to let my feminine energy lead how I show up in the world. It’s not something I’m comfortable doing but I’m learning.

I also want more ease and quiet in my life. This board speaks to me opening up to the possibility of creating that this year. I look forward to seeing what unfolds for me as I embody this word in 2018.

I’d love to hear from you now. Do you have any end of year rituals that you do? If you choose a word (or have a word choose you), what’s your word? I’d love to hear in the comments below or you can email me directly to tell me.

I look forward to hearing from you.

As always, from my heart to yours,
