fun facts

Last week’s post seems to have struck a chord with some of my readers. I am deeply grateful for the emails and Facebook comments I have received from folks telling me what the post meant to them. Sharing that post reminded me once again of the power of vulnerability. It draws people together and begets courage in me and in those around me.

Since last week was a bit heavy, I’m going to lighten things up a little this week. Since it’s my birthday month I thought I would share some fun facts about myself in celebration of another year of life.

If you’ve been around here for awhile or read my About Me section, you already know how much I love tea and the ocean but here are 10 other things you may not know about me:

Strawberries are my weakness

Want me to do something? Not sure I’ll say yes? Hand me a container of deep red strawberries and my answer is likely to be yes (I draw the line at illegal activity ).

That beautiful red fruit does me in every time. The darker the berry the sweeter the juice is so very true. Love me some strawberries.

Musicals are my happy place

My top 3 are Les Miserable (Broadway), Annie (1982 version ONLY) and the Sound of Music (the classic with Julie Andrews). But the truth of the matter is if there is singing and dancing in it, I am likely to love it.

I may or may not have the Annie and The Sound of Music movies on my phone (What? I never know when I might need to get into my happy place ).

I hate the sound of windshield wipers

It doesn’t how fancy the car or how “silent” they supposedly are, windshield wipers drive me crazy! As you can imagine this makes driving in the rain slightly challenging.

Around town, I turn them off at red lights. When I’m on the highway I suffer through them. My solution? Don’t leave the house when it rains (hehe! Not possible but what an idea right? )

No bugs. EVER!

I don’t do bugs of any kind, shape or size. If they fly it’s worse, unless they crawl unsuspectingly on you and if they can crawl and fly you might as well kill me now.

I can barely tolerate them outside but I understand it’s their natural habitat and who am I tell them they can’t be there (just please stay away from me). However, DO NOT come into my house! Inside is my domain and bugs are not welcome. EVER!

I harbor a secret wish to live overseas

I really want to live overseas, preferably in Australia. I’ve been to the country twice and love it there. One of my favorite people in the world lives in Sydney and it’s right by the water. I’m in heaven when I’m there.

One problem….they have bugs! Lots of them! Big, ugly, hairy fly-on-you-inside-the-house bugs (see #4). So while I would love to live in Oz, unless I can have an exterminator as my next-door neighbor it ain’t happening.

I participated in and finished a sprint triathlon

True story. I woke up one day and thought it might be a fun challenge. Never mind that I didn’t swim, bike, or run (pesky little detail ).

Still I trained and finished the Ramblin’ Rose Triathlon back in 2009. It was a great accomplishment.

I hate ironing

I blame my mother for this but I genuinely hate ironing. I don’t even own an iron or an ironing board much to the dismay of my mother when she visits.

What I have is a de-wrinkle setting on my dryer and clothes that generally don’t need to be ironed.

I’m not a girly girl (but I’m not a tomboy either)

I hate shopping, I have no idea about the latest fashion trends and honestly, I couldn’t care less if I tried. I also don’t wear make-up. Never have and the most you will catch me with is some lip-gloss. I own ONE lipstick and I couldn’t tell you the last time I put any on. Not a girly girl. I’m also not a tomboy, although….

I love a good football game

It’s my favorite sport and my friends like watching me watch a football game. I yell at the TV, get on my feet and run the ball with the players, and offer play instructions as if the coaches can hear me. A good game will keep my friend’s entertained for hours .

I’m an outgoing introvert

I was at a backyard party a couple summers ago and led the folks in a rousing dance routine to the Cha Cha Slide and the Cupid Shuffle. A new friend looked at me afterward and questioned if I was really an introvert.

I really am, I just like to have fun and know how to be on when I’m in social settings. But I am energized alone and after that party, I needed a day to myself to recharge. I am not shy but I am definitely an introvert.

Okay, there you have it, 10 fun facts about me. Now it’s your turn. I would love to hear one or two fun facts about you. Share in the comments below or head over to Facebook and let me know.
